Performs basic patient care services and supports activities of the patient care unit. Patient Care Technicians are multi skilled to provide expanded bedside services under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Patient Care Technicians have knowledge of and utilize appropriate age-related patient care protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of all ages of patients. Must be able to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical equipment/supplies preferred.
Supports the care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Under the direction of the registered nurse, performs simple diagnostic tests and obtains urine specimens. Communicates directly with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and patient families and is responsible to report changes in the patients condition. Performs duties under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Takes vital signs, measures input and output; collects non-invasive specimens; and records all data collected in the medical record. Assists with patient flow. Prepares and positions stable patients during transport. Responsible for preparing equipment during basic examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments using aseptic techniques. Maintains equipment, orders supplies, and cleans and restocks the treatment areas. Perform High Quality CPR / able to apply LUCAS Respond promptly to call lights. Cross train to Ward Secretary duties. Able to safely assist with transfer to and from procedural areas, including Radiology. House wide orientation to PEDS/OB/Surgery/ICU/ sterilization/Central Supply for equipment and or supply needs. Demonstrate an understanding of ED throughput flow and anticipate work flow. This position is full-time, 80 hours every 2 weeks.
EMT Certification preferred. Completion of EMT certification preferred. Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
